Welcome, party people! Soup's on and it's time for the big reveal and Bead Soup blog hop. Our hostess, Lori Anderson, has gathered 200 of us to swap soups and work on creating gorgeous pieces from the ingredients our Bead Soup partners have sent. HUGE thanks to Lori who, I know, dedicated much time and energy into this hop.
First off...the soups:
My partner is the lovely, Cassie Donlen. She makes incredible lampwork beads and is a talented jewelry designer.
This is the soup I sent Cassie and I can hardly wait to see what she's done with it.
For her soup, Cassie sent me a wonderful package of gorgeous lampwork, pearls and handmade elements...just tons of fun stuff! What to do...what to do???
Looking at the soup Cassie sent, I was taken with the whimsical aspect of her lampwork beads and with the color scheme...it reminded me of woodsmoke and leaves...a sunny autumn day. I knew I wanted to work some gemstones into the mix and felt like copper would best accent the beads and theme. Theme.....hmmmmmm.
Thoughts of autumn led me to this little vintage pin from my stash. Suddenly, my design came together. Turns out, this was becoming quite a personal piece of jewelry for me.
I've had my little dog, Maggie, on my mind as we've recently lost her. She was a squirrel chaser, extraordinaire so, of course, that was the direction for the piece...
"Thrill of the Hunt"
...totally whimsical and completely fanciful.
For my focal, I included a fun assortment of amusing autumn elements.
I created a resin paper oak leaf for the largest component. After I completed the leaf, I noticed what the text says: Jesus, meadows, sunshine...exactly what I hope for my Maggie. Perfect for this piece. Isn't it funny how these things work out?
Balanced on each side are acorns and a fall flower made from Cassie's lampwork beads. The little metal acorn, in the center, is the only element original to the little squirrel pin.
The "flower" is really stunning. To make it, I stacked one of Cassie's lampwork headpins on the bottom, followed by her spectacular "flower" bead and topped it with one of her small glass disk beads.
The golden colored beads to the right of the squirrel are some really pretty glass beads that Cassie sent. I also added faceted citrine and smokey quartz to the mix.
The small, champagne colored pearls are from my bead soup, as well, and I added a few more of Cassies lampwork beads on the left part of the necklace. I adore this color scheme....don't you?
At the back, I used Cassie's fabulous handmade clasp. This clasp is really beautiful and clever. Did I mention that Cassie has an Etsy shop? And now....
...Enter: Miss Maggie. Oh, the cuteness!
For a whimsical autumn squirrel chase, there must be a whimsical dog. I have two of these sweet pups that I got from my friend, Crystal, some years ago.
These look to be promotional giveaway trinkets for dog food, from maybe the 40's or 50's and remind me so much of Maggie in their terrier-ness. The little triangular ears and upright tail are adorable.
Good luck in your new hunting grounds, Miss Maggie.
This piece, I know, will go to a new owner...I won't keep it. I want another lover of dogs to have it and cherish it.
So, there you have it....all the ingredients, brought together...mingled, simmered and taste tested...for one wonderful, fragrant soup. I hope you enjoyed it and invite you to check out all the other participants pieces:

Wow! I REALLY love what you did with the bead soup and the color combination. I like the pieces you added that complemented the soup. It's a spectacular piece.

Wonderful necklace and a fantastic story behind it. I have a friend who recently lost her dog so I can't wait to share your story with her. Fred sounds so much like Maggie-- chasing everything he could find. Thank you for sharing the story and the necklace with us.

Hi Deryn, I was very interested in seeing what you and Cassie would create with each others bead soups because your styles are so different. Though you were given a soup that you traditionally don't work with, you absolutely made it your own and created something that represents your design style. You know I am a big fan of your work....

Oh my gosh Deryn. What a beautiful creation and I LOVE the title "Thrill of the Hunt" and how the design became personal to represent Maggie. The necklace is truly stunning and has so many different elements that it is so much fun looking as each photo to be able to see new things.
I totally laughed as it seemed we were on the same wave length of having hanging elements in the front in three sections. It's a great way to add lots of texture and eye candy. The squirrel is darling and I'm in love with the vintage dog.
I also loved seeing how necklace hung. It was a pleasure to be teamed up with you and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have worked with your collection of beads. It was very inspiring!

What a sweet design, Deryn! Truly an original. The vintage squirrel pin is adorable... and I love how you added the various dangles from the branch. You did amazing things with Cassie's lampwork (which I absolutely love, btw)...and the finishing touch - the little dog charm. I don't think I could part with such a sentimental and beautiful necklace such as this!
