I'm so excited about some recent news...I just had to share. Number 2 has been accepted to culinary school. In August, he'll be taking off for the Hyde Park, NY campus of the Culinary Institute of America. Hyde Park is their main campus and he'll be going for a bachelor's degree. Just look at that gorgeous campus...upstate NY...on the Hudson river. I'm sure that had nothing to do with his choice. I gotta say, I'm really torn. We're so very proud and pleased for him. On the other hand...he'll be a whole lot further away. But, I'm hoping I'll get to eat things like this when I see him...
So what if it adds another three inches to my thighs? If he makes it, I'm eating it.
We'll get a chance to see him in his new digs, later in the year. I'll be teaching at Art Is You, in Stamford, Connecticut in October. (I'll have more info on that, later.) It's a hop, skip and jump away from NY.
Meanwhile, I've got these gals on my mind:
As well as this:
I'm finishing up the final details of registration for my new class and, you may have guessed...it's all about closure! I should have the info posted in the next day or two....

Congratulations to your son! Those look like airedales! I have had a love affair with airedales for 15 years . I have two now....it began with wonderful" Ruby" who now resides forever in my heart. I am looking forward to your next online class!

Up State New York. What a wonderful place to go to school. And to visit. Congratulation to your son.
Those little puppies will take the pain of separation to a lower level. things are looking up. Good for you, you who give so much in inspiration to others.

That must be so exciting for all of you! What a nice place learn about food, too! And the puppies...oh, to have puppy breath again in the house...but that usually comes with puppy teeth, too....oh dear....congrats to your son!!

What fabulous news! Isn't it amazing to see our children grow and mature into adulthood? The only drawback is when they move so far away. All three of mine have plans to move away, and while it breaks my heart to know I won't see them every day, I'm proud of their desire to be out on their own. It's something I was never encouraged to do growing up. My father was a very traditional person and felt that women had certain roles in life.
And I've heard that if it was made with love, it will not go to your thighs....

Congratulations to your son! I'm impressed that he has the talent to go that far (my culinary skills stop at baking cookies!).
Also, are you thinking of getting a new dog? Those puppies are downright adorable! What breed are they?

So now you can say your son will be attending the CIA! I drove by there once, passing on the freeway. It looks beautiful. I vote that he becomes a pastry chef! I know that will be tough for you that he will be so far from home. Looks like you're thinking of getting a new puppy. After the loss of Maggie, it will be nice for you.

Hi, Deryn!
You are such a tease! I've been really wondering what your next workshop would be since you've mentioned it would be announced soon, and then this! Looks SO interesting!
How very cool for your son!
Take care!

Hooray for your number 2 son and Hooray for you. It's very hard to "let them go".
They all have to fly. We want them to be happy and be able to make a living. I'm sure this will happen for him. The difficult part is always the distance but aren't we lucky with the communication we all have today. It is the best school. New Adventures are good.
Maybe it is time to bring in a new furry little treasure. I hope so. All I can say is that after soooo many dogs that they are like children,... you love them all the same but each one gives you that special thing you love about their personality and new ones give you that gift. We love kids (4) and especially 2 year olds so when the kids left we got a new furry friend each time. Our dogs will always act like a 2 year old. We love them! Wonderful news for you guys Deryn. How proud you must be. Hugs, Susan from Williamsburg

Congratulations to your son, Deryn! How exciting! My youngest daughter did one year of culinary school at our local community college. She realized that while she loves to bake, she doesn't want to do it professionally (the stress of a restaurant kitchen isn't for her). I hope he loves it!
I saw the picture of Mayzie on facebook - Adorable!
Now the part where I can hardly contain my excitement - I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE GOING TO BE IN CONNECTICUT!!! I have never been to an art retreat though I've wanted to for a while now. I am going to find a way to afford this and make it happen (I'm sure it's as close as you'll get to Maine). Can't wait to see what you're teaching when registration opens!

are you getting a puppy? YAY!!!
i know how proud you must be of your sons... and the miles won't come between you, there is always a way. i know - robin lives all the way out in the high mountains of colorado now, and the longer he stays, the more he loves it. i've come to terms with the distance, but i'm not crazy about us all living so scattered. roy is seven hours by car, too....
cooking school, very cool! he'll appreciate that new kitchen of yours even more now -

Congrats on your boy being accepted - that is big news. And looks like there is a new puppy in your future - oh my, I guess you aren't going to have time to miss your boys then for a while...
wishing you a wonderful weekend...

Congrats for you and Number 2, coming to the east ( I typed in 'eat' first, lol) coast, where we've had no winter to speak of this year! There will be a bit of culture shock, too, people are different....
And those 3 gals are adorable, of course.
You'll be taking them all so no one feels left behind? Our vet told us that it doesn't bother them so much leaving Mommy, leaving siblings is very traumatic. And 3 is so much more fun!
