We're in the middle of a crazy heat wave. It. Is. Hot. Here, in my part of the world, we've had a record number of consecutive days in which temps reached triple digits. 24 days. 29 days. I've lost count. I spotted three huge loads of huge hay bales going down the road this weekend and the look of them summed up everything about our weather right now: stickery, hot, dusty, dry...pretty much ready to burst into flame!
Over the weekend, the temperature edged up to 109 and 107. Our low was 81. Low. 81. Dang!
My flower garden has withered under the intense glare and stepping outside feels mostly like stepping into a blast furnace, but with the added delight of high, high humidity.
Even Miss Maggie wants to do nothing but lay on the cool tile. Me too. Must...lay...on...cool...tile.
It's so ironic that part of the country is under floodwaters from Irene...and here, we're setting some kind of record for lack of rain. I don't recall when I've seen so many trees dead and dying. Even for us, it's crazy hot.
But still, we're blessed...right? I prayed for y'all on the East Coast that you wouldn't be washed away...that we'd be spared the worst. And, aren't we all so grateful that it wasn't as bad as we thought it might be.
Soon, camping weather will be here again. And, I can't wait for the break! How about you?
xxoo

Ah yeah...I have a good friend in Spring, TX and she's been keeping me informed of the intense heat as well. Glad to be in MN!!!!!

I feel almost guilty complaining that it's a little hot and muggy here in Northern Arizona (Prescott, to be exact) when so many are truly suffering. I'm from NY and raised my kids in Connecticut, so I'm deeply connected back there. Daughter Rachel, who lives in Central MA, got through totally unscathed, while close friends in Vermont are devastated. Let's hope the storm brewing now doesn't amount to anything. They've had ENOUGH.

Hope your weather breaks soon... We're very hot and humid in FL right now, but we get rain almost every day. It turns into a steam bath. Low at night is about 85. Grateful for all the thunderstorms and rain...
Praying for the East Coast and for you in TX as well.

I've often thought if there were any summer to move from our home in West Texas, this was the one to do it. It's actually starting to feel like autumn in the morning out here in NC. I often think of all of you out in TX, remembering how unbearable a week or two of triple digit weather can be, let alone a month or two. The drought is actually quite frightening when I think about the consequences. Yes, lay on the tiles. That sounds like such a sweet relief.

Here in Chapel Hill it has been hot too. 100's & 90's most of summer.Folks would say it was cooling off when it got into the 90's --ha!. Then this past week we had an earthquake and then Irene (hurricane). No damage from either of them but stressful still. I figure it will be a month or two before it cools down. I'm still worried about that wax pendent we'll be making!
