I'm not a big fan of new year's resolutions. Honestly, I gave them up many years ago. It's not that I don't have them, but the more determined I am to keep one, the more slippery and elusive the whole operation seems. I'm not deluded enough to think I can keep any kind of commitment to overhaul this body into that of a twenty year old or completely abolish my hoarders tendency. Oh, the pressure! It seems the more determined I am to fulfill that kind of pledge, the quicker things go south.
I let myself off that hook, long ago but I still feel the need for a fresh start at the beginning of each year. So, instead of a resolution I won't keep, I commit myself to something necessary: a renewal of the soul. To look up. To walk a closer walk. My goal, for years now, has been to live in closer proximity to the Spirit, the visible consequence being love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
The thing that I've learned is that it doesn't happen overnight. It's a process, day by day and step by step. Sometimes, it's an uphill climb but, in those moments when I hit the summit...the view is spectacular!
Thank you, for sticking with me this year...for your encouragement and your friendship. For coming back to see what's happening in my corner of the world. Whatever your hopeful new resolution may be for this upcoming year, I wish you well!

Deryn,
Happy New Year!
May 2011 bring you & your family good health and happiness!

I have always felt that the whole resolution/new year thing is the perfect way to start out a year of beautiful potential on a terribly negative note. And when ever I start out in a negative frame of mind I have already defeated any chance of accomplishments I might have. As for me I believe I'm going to concentrate on taking time to celebrate the small this year. The small accomplishments, lessons learned, the first Christmas cactus blossom The half second of a smile I managed to see on the cranky salesperson's face. All those little tiny baby steps that go by unnoticed in the haste to reach the "big one"

I believe you reached your goal a long time ago ... you are simply strengthening it now. The words that hit home with me - the words I often use to describe you - "gentleness", "patience", "self control" - are so much a part of you. I even see them in your work, as well as your life.
Happy New Year, my friend! I can't wait to see what you do in 2011!

Lovely. . .
I don't do resolutions either. For the past few years I picked a word to kind of be a touch stone throughout the year and this coming year I have abandoned that as well. Instead I am picking what worked for me in 2010 and that was staying positive and keeping my eyes on what I wanted. Less complaining and more appreciation. Its the year of the MOTTO, hehe.
Blessings and Peace for your new year!

That is beautiful! Beautifully felt, beautifully expressed, and the pictures are stunning. Are they all yours?
Your resolution is divine. Being just human, I will suggest letting yourself off the hook now and again. Well... maybe that just means giving *yourself* some of that patience and love, too. Sending some of my love your way now...

Deryn, YOU encourage ME to live with more grace and love. Even in this crazy world of jewelry making, creativity, egos and such. Thank you for sharing your heart. You are such a blessing to me!

Definitely a great goal! The only REAL goal in my opinion. What else do you have (really?) I wish you a great 2011 with Spirit.
