In the fall, a perfect dragonfly flew right into my back door and landed on the windowsill. Wanting to take photos later, I covered him up for safekeeping, but this curious girl...
...snatched him up and ran off with him. Naughty Maggie made short, crunchy work of him and I didn't get a chance to photograph that particular dragonfly. I was happy to find, not only a replacement, but also this:
It's been a strangely cold winter and a very cool spring but I'm finally hearing the birds twittering outside my door and seeing other winged things flit past. It's hard to stay in my studio with such gorgeous weather! Is it spring where you are?

amazing photos!!

I won't call it spring until I hear the spring peepers in the wetlands but my garlic is up and it's "greening up" all over, as we call it in Vermont. I saved some of those shots of the moth wing for color inspiration-- great shades of red and orange!

Wonderful photos Deryn! love them. Oh those dogs, got to watch them at every moment. Do you have a wire fox terrier? That's what my sis has, he's a rascal! Come on out to CA for some sun anytime, its pretty warm here, the flowers are blooming, spring has sprung. Hugs, Riki

It is practicaly summer here right now, no late spring snow, but today the temperature is supposed to reach into the seventies, unheard of!! My flowers are coming up but as yet no buds on the trees, maybe by the weekend. I tis great to be in the studio with the sun shining in through the windows. Hope you have a great day!!

No wonder you are teaching the winged creatures class. You have them all around you! Crunch Crunch Shame on Maggie. She is so cute. Is she an Airdale? Show us her whole picture Momma. Hope you are having a great week. Our weather is warm & wonderful (but, oh so windy). Hugs! Charlene

Oh and to answer your question, it's getting springy. We're starting to get leaves on some of our trees, some wildflowers. But the mountain hasn't completely "greened up" yet...as you drive down lower, it's in full swing. We're supposed to get snow on Thursday, though.

I love dragonfly wings! About 15 years ago, I found a dragonfly and made a copper armature, soldered it, and used it to run through an embossing press on wet watercolor paper. It was pretty cool!

Great pics Deryn. Baillie does the same as Maggie... anything with wings doesn't stand a chance!
Glad to hear that spring is on it's way for you.... we are now headed into fall....

I am sorry for the dragonfly, but I got a giggle out of little maggie's terrier instincts. She is quite a kick. Love the photos you have taken of wings and things. Did you use a macro lense?

So very awesome, these photos!! Sooo beautiful. We have had some very mild days and all of a sudden the grass is turning green and the buds are budding and green things are pushing up from underground. Isn't it glorious?

Great photos! Spring is moving in here in Indiana, we are supposed to be in the 70s by the end of the week. I am so excited:)

Beautiful photographs! They certainly look like Spring. It was spring and now its cold and drizzly again. Hoping for spring to return by the weekend.

Isn't God amazing?!?!?!?! He takes delight in every detail He creates. Those wings, so well-thought-out, designed perfectly. And your photos of them allow us to see close-up His works of art. Thank you Deryn, for eyes that see the beauty and a heart that loves to share.
It is cold here this week in the Northwest. But amazingly it was warm and not raining, with beautiful blue skies on Saturday at the wedding of a dear friends daughter. Many outdoor photos without any goose-bumps on the bride or bridesmaids! I was the official 'unofficial photographer' ~ which means I could take any photos I wanted and didn't have to deal with lining up the families just so.... and oh my, I have many!
And now am anticipating the joys of Easter ~ a day which never ceases to amaze me.
But oh Lord, help me, We are going to have a 2 and 4 year old here for 10 days and their 2 dogs... to add to my 2. Pray for me!!! gulp.
Blessings on your week! ~ Violet
