I've been in Oregon for a few days of blissfully beautiful weather and it's about to start raining. That's ok...I'm just grateful to be here. My flight was near perfect until a disturbing incident of terror somewhere above California. According to our pilot, one of our engines sucked in a bird. Let me tell you, an enormous bump and prolonged shudder, followed by flames shooting from one engine is not what you want to experience at 20,000 feet. My poor sweet, seatmate, Hillary, was even more terrified than I. I haven't held hands with a woman so much since I was five years old and holding hands with my mommy! It was good to focus on something other than my own fear. God knew. He knew I needed to sit beside someone who needed to feel His presence. I hope Hillary felt it...bless her heart.

That was quite the ride!! I'm glad you and Hillary had each other and yes, I think God was with you on that flight!!
I must say your photographs of Oregon in autumn have me adding Oregon as a place to visit on my ever growing list! And your photography is as stunning as the jewelry you create!

Was so wonderful to see you Deryn! The class was so fabulous and I heard all great things from other students as well. I am thoroughly enjoying my voodoo necklace and my mother loves her birds nest pendant necklace too. Thank You! I look forward to spending time with you again before too long. Don't hesitate to contact me whenever you're in Oregon. I'll happily drive up for some play time with you!
Hope your travels home went more smoothly. (I would have been sweating bullets and nearly fainted if I had been on that flight! Poor bird, what a way to go!)

I'm sorry to hear you went through something so horrible..especially with all of the airline tragedies you hear about. How wonderful that you could be of comfort to someone who needed it. Your pictures are just gorgeous...do you use a macro lens?

My friend, I am so glad you are safe. What a horrid thought - watching an engine on fire from your seat on the plane. I do believe your strong, gentle hand, holding onto another, was indeed "heard."
The beautiful, peaceful photos (you do have such a gift for composition!) you posted which appeared after sharing your experience are so moving.
Life. I'm so glad you "held on" to it!

I'm back, this time with a a question. I just received a copy of the Spring 2009 issue of Belle Armoire Jewelry, featuring your very interesting article called Transparent Beauty.
My question is about n.9 of the instructions, applying the Diamond Glaze. I imagine it means to the back (image side), is that correct? The pieces you made are beautiful.
Thank you.

Oh my goodness! I am so glad you are safe and that you were not alone! Flying didn't bother me at all when I was younger, but as I age, I find it easy to worry a little when flying.
Your Portland pictures are lovely. I visited it once in December. It rained every day.
Have you been to the big ROSE garden there on the hillside???

Lovely photos! Glad everything was OK on the flight. (apparently not for the bird) I just sent my registration out for Adorn Me. I am trying to get into two of your classes. Fingers crossed! My friend, Beth Bricker, came to Portland and took Jou Jou and then was in Georgia with my other Diva friends for the frame class with DJ. She raves about you!!! Looking forward to Texas!

your flight experience does not sound the least bit fun! i do believe i would have wet myself had i been on that flight. i'm sorry you had to go through that but so very glad that you landed safe and sound in our pretty little town.
today the rain started in portland, which means we'll have gray skies and puddles for a good five months straight. hope you brought some rubber boots. :) so glad you got to see that it can actually be a lovely place though.
hope to see you while you're here! i'll be lurking around on vendor night for sure and will keep an eye out for you. just look for stripey socks and pigtails and it may very well be me.

You poor dears. I didn't even know birds flew so high, and just when I was trying to talk myself out of my debilitating fear of flying.
Your photos are magnificent!

All of your pictures are a testament to why I want to leave the arid desert! Handpicked hazelnuts and bees and sand dollars...heaven!
Glad you arrived safely and was there for Hillary!

Incredible photos - my faves are the sunflower, never seen one taken at exactly that angle, and I wish I'd thought of it - and the insect on the flower, and those hazlenuts. A lovely, atmospheric collection.
