"Smoke"
Maybe because the weather has been nice here, this spring, or maybe because of the long holiday weekend...I'm not sure...but I completely forgot to post the earrings that go with my necklace, "Turquoise and Stones." I love smoky quartz so decided to draw that element from the necklace to use in the earrings. I also neglected to post this photo of the necklace...
"Turquoise and Stones"
...which shows how pretty the faceted, carnelian tubes are. I got these gorgeous, faceted tube beads in carnelian and mother of pearl...they're pretty spectacular!
Speaking of spectacular, there are some interesting things going on in my yard, this time of year. I'm not sure what this plant is...ginger somethingorother. It's been lounging in a corner of the yard for years and never offered anything more spectacular than a place for Miss Maggie to stick her nose into. This year...bam...this strange and wonderful flower.
This beautiful thing made an appearance. It's a daylily I'd planted years ago and gave up on when I lost my oak tree in hurricane Ike. But, here it is, bursting like a firework.
My agapanthus exploded as well...a huge blue ball of flowering glory.
Sadly, this was the fate of my cardinal's eggs AND my robin's eggs. Both nests were raided by some mystery predator. I don't want to talk about it...sniff.
Now that Memorial Day weekend is over, the weather has gone back to the usual, drippy, humid, heat. So, no more tea on the deck... it's back to work (inside) for me.

I think that wrens and sparrows make it a habit of poking holes into other birds' eggs. nasty little buggers. The wrens cracked all my chicadee eggs last year.

Oh how sad about the baby birds...we have a fox lurking around here lately and he's been up to no good...
Your garden is beautiful Deryn and I love that even after Ike, something you thought you'd lost forever has made it's appearance. That is so uplifting!

Deryn, I think that unknown flower is a white ginger plant! This is a shot of tropical ginger plants that have flowers (the ones here have this huge red cone of flower that's quite different) but this one looked a lot like your mystery:

I couldn't see it so well in your photograph, but it does look like it has those white pink-tipped buds.
I -love- that carnelian tube! And those earrings are really gorgeous too. I bombed my voice exam, I think, but I'm going to be busy this weekend teaching at a choral festival for some 300 participants so no time to worry about that. I'm just busy studying my Coronation Anthems scores and panicking! The weather here is dreadfully hot too; last night thank God it rained a bit and cooled down the place or I'd have a migraine still.

Gorgeous flowers, and earrings too. Smoky quartz really does go with everything, doesn't it? My daylilies are budding out nicely but Portland won't see agapanthus for another month or so. Thank you sharing your lovely flowers. So sorry about the eggs.

Your agapanthus is stunning! And so sorry about the little egg. I found one that looks similar in my flower bed. It must have fallen out of the nest. It did not break but, I know it will never hatch so, I brought it in & put it with my other treasures. Now the delima is should I leave it alone or poke a hole to blow out the insides? I don't want it to turn stinky. Love your earrings too.

Ooh...such pretty posies you have, my dear! I love that new whatchamacallit...never seen that in my neck of the woods. I have daylillies but of the orange variety. Didn't know they exploded in riots of burgundy and yellow! And smokey quartz is one of my all-time favorite stones. I swear it goes with everything. And that carnelian bead is divine. Thanks for sharing!
Enjoy the day!
