Registration for this class is now closed. I hope you join me for a future class!
Spellbound by the allure of a glittering vintage rhinestone paste brooch or an antique buckle? Want to work magic with that unique lock or old metal flower? In this workshop, I'll help you transform your treasured vintage and found objects into a beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry.
If you've ever struggled with design or felt your pieces just don't "work," this is the class for you. Design is one of my very favorite aspects of jewelry making and is essential to beautiful pieces. I'll walk you through my creative process in a thoughtful, in depth way and show you how I relate each element together harmoniously into a spellbinding composition. Your learning experience will be enhanced by several "Design Challenge" projects. For each of the first six weeks of class, you'll be challenged to complete a successful design based on a design element prompt. At the end of each Design Challenge week, I'll hold a live Facebook chat to discuss that week's prompt. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
While this class is heavy on design, interspersed throughout will be plenty of "Technique Essentials." We’ll be covering lots of techniques including numerous methods of cold connection and exploring many ways to work with found objects. You'll be using your own unique objects as I show you various ways to modify them and work them into your jewelry designs. There are so many little tips and tricks tucked away in this class that I can't possibly tell you all of them, but here are a few of the things we'll be doing:
- drilling through metal, bone, mother of pearl, shell and stone
- cold attachments with rivets, wire and eyelets
- working with a butane torch
- bead stringing
- crimping, three ways
- working with vintage rhinestone clasps
- more!!
Sprinkled throughout the workshop you'll find my "Focus on Focals" videos. Each one focuses on working with a particular found object. These are some truly fun projects which include:
- working with vintage rhinestone jewelry
- transfer image onto a vintage leather coin purse
- my unique image transfer onto chandelier crystals
- found object tassels
- working with a fabric focal
- design, design, design...
- more!!
This is an online class unlike any I've ever taught and I'm so excited to offer it to you! I hope you'll join me and discover The Alchemy of Objects.
