Originally from Oregon, with a stop in Wyoming, Deryn Mentock got to Texas as fast as she could. There, she wrangles a husband, two young men, an energetic pup, and a nice collection of cowboy boots.
Deryn has been passionate about art, especially jewelry design, for as long as she can remember. Her distinctive style has emerged through years of practice in metalsmithing and jewelry making techniques. When she’s not traveling to teach, or treasure hunting, she is in the studio, creating. Each handmade piece of jewelry is infused with color and texture, and combines metal, gemstones, and unique found objects, in unexpected ways. As a nationally recognized instructor, Deryn loves sharing her knowledge of technique and design. She also teaches her very popular online workshops where you'll get a peek into her creative process. Design work includes work done for Michaels stores nationwide for their Industrial Chic line of jewelry findings, and work as a member of the Ice Resin design team.
Deryn's first book “The Jewelry Maker’s Design Book,” released in 2014, is an artful compilation featuring her eclectic fusion of found objects, wire, and metal work, including instructions, tutorials and insights into jewelry making and design. Her jewelry and artwork have been featured in numerous books and magazines, including a feature article and cover for Belle Armoire Jewelry magazine.
